Match Result Statistics from the 2022/23 Ohio Wrestling Season

By DubStat on April 26, 2023April 28, 2023

76,427 matches were recorded in Jakes Wrestling’s database for the 22/23 season. Here’s the breakdown of results.

Match Counts

Match counts increase as you move from 106 to 138 and then level off.

Heavyweight

Heavyweight results stood out:

1. Only 16 tech falls all season for all divisions (Jaxon Joy alone had 18 recorded in the database)

2. Most likely weight to end in a FALL (81%)

3. Almost as likely to end in OT as a MAJOR decision (117 vs 119)

Bonus Points

Bonus point results had some interesting distributions.

Falls

Fall counts increase as weight increases (partly due to total match counts at the lower weights)

Majors and Techs

Major decisions and tech falls decrease as weight increases

Overtime

OT results are normally distributed until spiking at 215 and 285

Ohio State Tournament

The state tournament results followed an entirely different distribution.

Matches were far more likely to end in decision than any other result.

Overtime matches more likely to occur at state than in the regular season.

Tech falls weren’t so common.
