Ginter wins the Maumee Bay Classic over Returning State Champion King

Jeremy Ginter of Whitmer had an impressive weekend wrestling at the Maumee Bay Classic at Oregon Clay High School.

To reach the tournament finals, Ginter defeated two highly ranked opponents — D1 #16 Sertell (Findlay) in the quarterfinals, and D1 #4 Wood (Perrysburg) in the semifinals.

He then faced off against the returning division 2 state champion and #1 ranked Kaden King of Buckeye, in what proved to be a hotly contested match.

King scored the first takedown of the match with Ginter later answering with a takedown of his own. However, it was Ginter’s ability to ride that was ultimately the difference in the match.

In the third period, King needed an escape to tie the match. He did his best to break Ginter’s grip, and was on the cusp of escaping multiple times. However, Ginter was able to hold on and ride him out for the victory.

Ginter is currently ranked #1 at 157-pounds in division 1.

Congratulations to Jeremy Ginter for being named DubStat’s Wrestler of the Week!
