Graham strides into Division 3 as a confident dynasty looking to extend its legacy. After 25 years on top of Division 2, they’re not just moving to a new division—they’re coming to conquer it.
They are the favorites to win their 26th state title, but Delta will not go down without a battle. Graham will have to earn it.
Let’s pull back the curtain take a closer look at the top 5 contenders in Division 3.

Top 5 Teams
#1 Graham
Returning Qualifiers
Brogan Tucker (1st)
Bryce Kohler (2nd)
Blaine Demarco (4th)
Jake Landis (4th)
Chett Mannier (Q)
Micah Krieger (Q)
Danny Hoke (Q)
Other Notable Wrestlers
Gage Stull
Kaden Marshall
Wyatt Kaemmerer
Baden Root
Freshmen
Kyler Crooks (JH 1st)
Cole Winemiller (JH 2nd)
Jakob Hoke (JH 3rd)
Gabriel Krieger (JH 3rd)
Cooper Breslin (JH 4th)
Ryan Angel (JH 6th)
Jonas Mannier
Logan Souders
Graham enters the season with a stellar lineup, returning seven state qualifiers led by three-time state champion Brogan Tucker, the top wrestler in Division 3.
State placers Kohler, DeMarco, and Landis should all do well down a division, while Mannier, Krieger, and Hoke bring additional state experience.
Stull and Root add depth to the roster, and the heavyweight slot, whether it goes to Marshall or Kaemmerer, will be in good hands.
In addition to Graham’s returning talent, an impressive group of freshmen is set to make an impact right out of the gate. Junior high state champ Crooks looks to be an immediate contender, with Mannier, Winemiller, and Souders also capable of scoring points at the state tournament. Hoke, Krieger, and Angel are all excellent, though they’ll be hard-pressed to break into the starting lineup this season.
Graham doesn’t appear to be stepping down from it’s throne anytime soon. This dynasty will reign for the foreseeable future.
#2 Delta
Returning Qualifiers
Adam Mattin (1st)
Connor Sintobin (5th)
Landon Lindermoot (7th)
Cass Chiesa (8th)
Tyler Barnes (Q)
Lane Lopez (Q)
Richard Flores (Q)
Parker Cone (Q)
Other Notable Wrestlers
Daniel Thatcher
Brady Smith
Cooper Tipton
Carl Warner
Thomas Hernandez
Freshmen
Marcus Nagel (JH 1st)
Gunner Taylor (JH 2nd)
The six-time state champion Delta Panthers are poised to field one of their strongest lineups in school history, making them the clear favorites to bring home the runner-up trophy this season.
They return eight state qualifiers, led by two-time state champ Adam Mattin, who looks primed to claim his third title. Sintobin, Barnes, and Chiesa each have state finalist potential as well.
Lindermoot, who placed in a tough 144-pound class last year, should be a podium contender again, with Lopez, Flores, Smith, Thatcher, and Cone all strong candidates to place as well.
Tipton, Warner, and Hernandez add depth and strength to the lineup.
Additionally, Delta is welcoming two standout freshmen: junior high champ Nagel and runner-up Taylor, who are both state podium threats in the middle weights.
With 10-12 potential state placers, Delta would normally be on track for a Division 3 state title. But with Graham in the picture, it appears they will have to settle for a well-earned silver.
#3 Waynedale
Returning Qualifiers
Brock Beckler (4th)
Caden Schmeltzer (5th)
Riley Greathouse (6th)
Stephen Patterson (7th)
Isaak Skelly (Q)
Robert McCrork (Q)
Other Notable Wrestlers
Dalton Oberly
Jayden Schlabach
Hezekiah Top
Brandon Walters
Freshmen
Sebastian Schmeltzer (JH 7th)
The relatively young Waynedale team returns a strong contingency of four state placers and an additional two qualifiers.
Two-time state placer, Caden Schmeltzer is state champion material and Beckler, Greathouse, and Patterson should all improve on last year’s placement.
Additionally, Kelly, McCrork, and Oberly all have the goods to make the podium.
Freshman Sebastian Schmeltzer looks promising to do well at a lower weight.
With 6-8 state placers, the Golden Bears are comfortably positioned as the third-best team in Division 3. To push into trophy contention, though, they’ll need everything to go right in March—and hope Delta stumbles along the way.
#4 Milan Edison
Returning Qualifiers
Luke James (1st)
Abe Hermes (3rd)
Xander Gfell-King (6th)
Mason Hermes (8th)
Other Notable Wrestlers
Cy Finnen
Quentin Cox
In classic Edison fashion, they will again field a small but powerful lineup. They had enough firepower last year to secure their first ever state title after three runner-up finishes, but with key graduates Horvath and Medina gone, they will find themselves outside of trophy contention this season.
State champion James is probably the second-best wrestler in Division 3 behind Tucker, and he’ll be the favorite to claim his second title. Former state champ Hermes will also be in contention to claim his second title.
If lightweights Gfell-King and M. Hermes return to the podium, Edison is easily a top-5 team again.
Add in Cox and the steadily improving Finnen, and they’re looking at 4-5 state placers and possibly 2 champions—a solid showing by any measure.
#5 Lake Catholic
Returning Qualifiers
Danny Zmorowski (3rd)
Tommy Slack (5th)
Chance Wurh (6th)
Freshmen
Tyler Ineman
Isaiah Washner (JH 7th)
Coach Nate Skonieczny has done a nice job of building up Lake Catholic into a D3 contender. They’re not particularly deep this year, but they do have a handful of excellent underclassmen who will make some noise this season.
At the forefront is sophomore Zmorowski, who placed third as a freshman and finished as Fargo National runner-up in the offseason. He’s the favorite for the 215-pound title this year.
Sophomores Slack and Wuhr, both returning placers, are also set to contend, with Slack looking like a potential finalist.
The cougars will add freshmen Ineman and Washner, who should both compete well in the lower-weights. Ineman, in particular, has already made waves by beating some high school standouts in the offseason.
This is a team on the rise. Give them two years and they will be competing for a team trophy.
Dual Meet Rankings
- Graham
- Delta
- Waynedale
- Barnesville
- Monroeville
- Miami East
- Oak Harbor
- Northmor
- Rootstown
- Genoa
Dual meet rankings are based on DubStat’s computer-generated team rankings while also factoring in potential impacts by incoming freshmen.
Graham’s depth will likely be too much for Delta to overcome in a dual meet, but Delta clearly holds the number two spot. There’s a noticeable gap between them and Waynedale, who are comfortably ahead of the rest of the field.
Barnesville and Monroeville will bring solid, deep teams, but they don’t have the firepower to compete with the top three. I see both of them slightly ahead of the rest of the top ten, but still a step behind Waynedale.

Returning Champions
Brogan Tucker (Graham)
Adam Mattin (Delta)
Luke James (Milan Edison)
Nathan Attisano (Legacy Christian)
Michael Frye (Columbia)
Abe Hermes (Milan Edison)
Brogan Tucker is the headliner in Division 3 this season as he chases his fourth state title, and should do so with little challenge.
Adam Mattin is gunning for his third title and fourth trip to the state finals. I don’t see anyone who will stand in his way.
James, Attisano, Frye, and Hermes will all look to return to the top of the podium for a second time.

Rule Changes for the 2024/25 Season
OHSAA Wrestling has enacted changes for takedowns, near-fall, and out-of-bounds scoring to align with college wrestling rules, encourage more offense, and reduce stalling.
- 3-point Takedowns: The value for a takedown has increased from two points to three points.
- 4-Point Near-Falls: Offensive wrestlers will now earn 2, 3, or 4 near-fall points based on the duration they hold their opponent in near-fall criteria.
- Out-of-Bounds: A wrestler is considered inbounds if either wrestler has one point of contact inside the boundary line.
