Championship Bracket Predictions

Consolation Bracket Predictions

1st Round Matchups

#4 Watterson vs. #17 West Holmes

Watterson is the favorite, but a couple of upsets from West Holmes could make this interesting. The key matchup is at 150, where #1 Lindsay faces #4 Dixon.

#5 Wauseon vs. #2 Perkins
This quarterfinal is a true toss-up between two evenly matched teams. A few swing matches will decide the outcome. Here’s two top-10 matchups to watch:

126: #3 Lafountain vs. #4 Smith (Lafountain has two wins over Smith this season)
150: #6 Cook vs. #9 Davlin (Davlin holds a head-to-head win, but Cook has been on a hot streak)

#1 Perry vs. #8 Steubenville

Perry is the most well-rounded team in the bracket, and their depth should carry them past Steubenville. The most anticipated match is at 144, with #5 Bezzeg (Perry) taking on #2 Smith (Steubenville).

#26 Jonathan Alder vs. #2 Buckeye

Buckeye is favored in 10 of 14 matches and should move on easily. The most intriguing bout is at 106, where #6 Bartos takes on #4 Watson.

Projected Semifinal Matchups

#4 Watterson vs. #5 Wauseon

It could just as easily be Perkins here against Watterson, but either way, this is another close dual. I have Watterson as a 1-point favorite, making this another true toss-up.

Watterson may try to shift its 132-157 lineup to gain an advantage, but Wauseon has the depth to counter. The winner of the coin flip will garner a sizeable advantage.

I don’t see any toss-ups in this dual so bonus points will also play a big factor.

#1 Perry vs. #3 Buckeye

Another 50/50 battle, with Buckeye slightly favored on paper by 1 point.

If it comes down to a 7-7 match split, Buckeye has the edge in bonus points. If Perry can shuffle the lineup to force more favorable matchups, they could steal the win.

The match to watch is at 144: #5 Bezzeg (Perry) vs. #13 Beckett (Buckeye) – Bezzeg has had a stronger season, but Beckett placed 3rd at state last year and is as scrappy as they come.

Projected Finals

#4 Watterson vs. #2 Buckeye

We could just as easily see Perry, Wauseon, or Perkins in the final, but assuming our projections hold, Buckeye matches up well with Watterson and holds a 10-point edge on paper.

Watterson needs to win the two toss-up matches at 113 and 138 to pull off the win.

Projected Lineups

I expect movements in both lineups around 157 and 165 to try to create an advantage.

106: #17 Sid Hunt vs. #6 Collin Bartos
113: #73 Robbie Hite vs. #79 Zachary Simmons
120: #37 Greyson Conyers vs. #22 Brenden McKee
126: #156 Preston Kelly vs. #8 Maven Reid
132: #9 Thomas Lindsay vs. #1 Blake Bartos
138: #6 Tommy Rowlands vs. #5 Austin McKee (marquee match)
144: #1 Mitchell Younger vs. #13 Danny Beckett
150: #1 James Lindsay vs. #54 Tate McCourt
157: #11 Trey Saquadine vs. #16 Brady Zoul
165: #47 Landon Lucas/#25 Miles D’Orazio vs. #140 Carter Herkshowitz
175: #55 James Kryzewski vs. #19 Liam Neitenbach
190: #88 AJ Demassimo vs. #35 Ryan Wilhelm
215: #1 Michael Boyle vs. #42 Justin Augustine
285: Forfeit vs. #22 Ryan Lino
