Ohio High School Wrestling Rankings – Division 1 – Division 2 – Division 3
The 2024 Ohio high school wrestling season is weeks away and its shaping up to be an exciting one in division 3.
In this article will cover the following topics to examine the landscape of division 3 wrestling in Ohio:
State Tournament Team Projections
Three teams have a real shot at the title in what will likely be the tightest team race we’ve seen in ten years.
Dual Meet Rankings
While 4-5 hammers can put a team in the top 5 at the state tournament, 7+ victories are often needed to win a dual meet. See which teams have put together solid lineups from top to bottom.
Returning State Champions
10 individual state champions return for the 2024 season. Among them is Dillon Campbell who will go for his fourth individual title.
Top 25 Returning Wrestlers
A talented crew of wrestlers returns this season. Check out the top 25.
State Tournament Team Projections
- Barnesville (100)
- Milan Edison (90)
- Legacy Christian (80)
- Liberty Center (60)
- Monroeville (56)
- Waynedale (55)
- Lake Catholic (52)
- Delta (51)
- Harrison Central (50)
- Archbold (45)
The division 3 OHSAA team title will be hotly contested this year with Barnesville, Edison, and Legacy Christian all having a real chance at taking home the team trophy.
Let’s take an in-depth look at the top 5 teams.
#1 Barnesville
Returning Qualifiers
- Reese Stephen (1st)
- Dakota King (3rd)
- Skyler King (5th)
- Ayden King (5th)
- Jonathan Huntsman (7th)
- Hines Ford (Q)
- Karson Milhoan (Q)
Notable Wrestlers
- Marshall Meade
- Colt Carpenter
In 1984, Barnesville topped Columbus St. Francis DeSales by 7 points to win the class AA state championship.
In 2024, they will be the favorite to do it again. This time it will be behind the power of returning champ Reese Stephen and the King boys, who are all title contenders this year.
With Edison and Legacy nipping at their heels, Barnesville will need Huntstman, Ford, and Milhoan to make the state podium.
Meade and Carpenter could also contribute which may be what’s needed for Barnesville to win their first team title in 40 years.
#2 Milan Edison
Returning Qualifiers
- Abe Hermes (1st)
- Kohen Horvath (3rd)
- Marcus Medina (5th)
- Luke James (3rd – D2)
Notable Wrestlers
- Xander Gfell-King
- Mason Hermes
Edison is an extremely top heavy team. They return state champion Hermes, and state placers Horvath and Medina. Those three alone make them a top-10 team.
However, they have added another title contender this offseason in third-place finisher Luke James who transferred in from Graham.
Edison is now looking at four potential finalists which puts them in the hunt to overtake Barnesville.
If freshman Mason Hermes can earn a high placement at state, Edison could finally break through and win their first team title after finishing as runner-up the past three seasons.
#3 Legacy Christian
Returning Qualifiers
- Dillon Campbell (1st)
- Eli Campbell (2nd)
- Brayden Brown (3rd)
- Nathan Attisano (5th)
Notable Wrestlers
- Warren Taylor
- Taven Norris
- Sam Tuck
Legacy Christian lost about half of their state team points from last year due to graduation. Even so, they will be in the hunt to win their fourth straight team title.
They will rely heavily on their four “big dogs”; Dillon Campbell, Eli Campbell, Brayden Brown, and Nathan Attisano.
If that group can produce 2-3 champions with the others placing top 3, Legacy will be within striking distance of Barnesville and Edison.
Taylor, Norris, and Tuck all have the talent to contribute as well. They will need every point that they can get out of the supporting staff if they want to keep their winning streak alive.
#4 Liberty Center
Returning Qualifiers
- Xander Myers (1st)
- Braedyn Tammarine (4th)
- Jackson Bartels (8th)
- Drew Matthews (Q)
Notable Wrestlers
- Logan Sifuentes
- Landon Massie
- Clayton Seel
- Brady Badenhop
- Daine Bayer
Liberty Center returns two big point scorers in champion Myers and 4th-place finisher Tammarine.
Bartels and Matthews will also both contend for state placement while Sifuentes, Massie, Seel, Badenhop, and Bayer are potential contributors.
Fourth place seems to be Liberty Center’s ceiling, as they won’t overtake Barnesville, Edison, or Legacy.
However, they should be solidly in the top 5 with 8-10 guys wrestling at the Schott come March and 4-6 on the podium.
#5 Monroeville
Returning Qualifiers
- Ashton Homan (1st)
- Brencyn Evans (7th)
- Landen Roeder (Q)
Notable Wrestlers
- Brycen Dunlap
- Ian Patchen
- Owen Patchen
- Colt Clark
- Andersen Evans
Monroeville will field a team mixed with seasoned veterans and talented freshman. While they won’t be in the hunt for the team title, they should qualify 6-9 to state and have 3-5 wrestlers on the podium.
The team will be anchored by returning champion Homan while Evans and Roeder will look to improve on their state performances from last year.
Freshmen Patchen, Clark, and Anderson should all have solid seasons for the Eagles and set them up for success over the next few years.
Dual Meet Team Rankings
- Barnesville
- Waynedale
- Liberty Center
- Delta
- Tinora
- Lakota
- Covington
- Genoa
- Marion Pleasant
- Rootstown
State Dual Meet Tournament Outlook
#1 Barnesville will have little trouble exiting the Harrison Central district. #9 Marion Pleasant looks to be the second best team here.
#2 Waynedale should likewise cruise through the Independence district, likely meeting #10 Rootstown in the finals.
The Troy District is light on solid dual meet teams. #7 Covington, Versailles, Legacy Christian (if they can field a somewhat full lineup), or Preble Shawnee could all win here.
Last, but certainly not least, the Rossford district, will be an absolute dog fight. Here we have #3 Liberty Center, #4 Delta, #5 Tinora, #6 Lakota, and #8 Genoa. Monroeville, Oak Harbor, and returning dual meet state champion Archbold will also be in contention.
